The Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders (NBD) Programme is focused on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system, and the neural mechanisms underlying human neurological, psychiatric and ophthalmological disorders.

There is 1 – 2 Research Assistant / Research Associate positions available that focus on elucidating pathogenic mechanisms of Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and revealing potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of PD. Under Principal Investigator Assistant Professor Cao Mian, investigations will be conducted to understand how the impaired synaptic membrane trafficking results in selective neurodegeneration of dopaminergic neurons in PD, and study the potential synergistic function of PD-linked proteins on synaptic endocytic pathway. There will a combination use of biochemical, cell biological, genetic, physiological, pathological and behavioural approaches on PD mouse models for this project. The duties of the position are as follows: –

  • Perform a variety of functions related to research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
  • Perform animal cell cultures (primary neuronal culture, cell lines) and basic molecular biology works (PCR, cloning, western blotting, protein purification, immunostaining, etc). 
  • Maintain transgenic mice and genotyping.
  • Monitor, document and report experimental results and research findings.
  • Order/prepare common reagents and maintain lab inventory.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Life Sciences or related discipline. 
  • Minimum 1 to 2 years of academic laboratory experience.  
  • Possess knowledge of cell culture and molecular biology.
  • Prior laboratory experimental skills and experience in handling mice.
  • A strong team player with a collaborative mindset who is open-minded, energetic, well-organised and highly motivated.
