Job Description:

You will provide general laboratory support services for the research projects conducted at Infectious Disease Research Laboratory (IDRL) in NCID, which includes laboratory investigations and day-to-day management of laboratory activities and maintenance of the laboratory equipment.
Storage and tests / analyses of specimens from the biological samples and other substances by established scientific laboratory techniques to aid in diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases or to support medical research.

  • Assist with administrative work related to Human Biomedical Research Act (HRBA) tissue bank framework as well as to handle all samples in the lab under this new framework
  • Work with NCID Research Office in policy drafting, implementing and ensure all researchers comply to the policy
  • Assist in setting up Pathogen Hub Facilities
  • Process samples collected from research subjects and store in accordance to the study protocol / standard operating procedures
  • Bench work for various laboratory tests and activities as per study protocol / standard operating procedures
  • Recognize, identify and resolve problems related to specimens, methods and instrumentation
  • Prepare reagents for use in test performance
  • Maintain inventory list of reagents and supplies; and ensure depleting stocks are replenished.
  • Ensure efficient and cost effective usage of lab reagents and supplies
  • Ensure that all laboratory equipment are adequately maintained and serviced for optimal use
  • Ensure maintenance of lab and ensure that appropriate regulations pertaining to usage of lab are being adhered to
  • Comply with all safety regulations / infection control policies and procedures stipulated by the lab and institution.
  • Assist in the development implementation and revision of standard operating procedure(s) for department
  • Maintain proper documentation of relevant research documents, inventories, protocols, maintenance logs, sample processing logs etc.
  • Assist in planning of study logistics, workflow, documentation and execution of new studies, liaising with internal and external parties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisors and HOD, including work areas not mentioned here.


  • Bachelor of Science or Advanced Diploma preferably with major in Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Bench work skills e.g. Real-time PCR, DNA extraction, tissue and cell culture technique, aseptic technique
  • Prior experience in laboratory inventory, stock taking, ordering reagents / consumables and maintenance of equipment, will be advantaged
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
